Dance your way through the Palais des Festivals!
Every season, the Palais des Festivals organises dance masterclasses for amateur and advanced dancers. The aim is to enable young dancers to experience the creative process and journey that professional dancers and their work with choreographers have gone through.
Here are the two masterclasses on offer:

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani
Sat. nov. 23 2024 - 17h-19h - Palais des Festivals
The Palais des Festivals in Cannes welcomes the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani on Sunday 24 November at 6pm with a double programme: Solo Echo (2012) by Crystal Pite and We loved each other so much (2024) by Yoann Bourgeois.
As part of the programme, a master class for intermediate/advanced dancers will be held on Saturday 23 November from 5pm to 7pm.
The Master Class will be led by 2 of the company’s dancers: Rachel McNamee and Hiroki Ichinose.
The content of this class will be a study of the repertoire of Solo Echo – a piece choreographed by Crystal Pite originally created in 2012 for NDT and performed by GöteborgsOperans Danskompani since 2018. The dancers’ powerful and refined movements capture the transience and loss of life, and our acceptance of it. The music includes two sonatas for cello and piano by the melancholic Johannes Brahms. The choreography is based on a poem by Mark Strand, ‘Lines of Winter’. The gently falling snowflakes evoke the sadness of winter.
Rachel McNamee, Canada/England, trained at Arts Umbrella Dance. After graduating in 2014, she worked with Nederlands Dans Theater for four years. She joined GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in July 2018 where she has performed works by Hofesh Shechter, Sharon Eyal, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite, Alexander Ekman, Alan Lucien Øyen, Maxine Doyle, Imre & Marne, Damien Jalet, Tom Weinberger and Emma Portner among others.
Hiroki Ichinose was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii. He graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in dance and an option in computer programming. He has worked as a freelance artist, touring internationally with Aszure Barton & Artists, Kyle Abraham/A.I.M, Rashaun Mitchell, among others, and has danced as a soloist with the Staatstheater Nuremberg Ballet. He featured in Dance Magazine’s ‘25 to Watch’ list in 2016. Hiroki Ichinose has been a member of the GöteborgOperans Danskompani since 2018, where he has performed works by Hofesh Shechter, Sharon Eyal, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite, Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger, Maxine Doyle, Damien Jalet and Emma Portner, among others.
