STUDIOTRADE PLATEFORM

Coordinated by Eric Oberdorff/Cie Humaine

Organized in partnership with the Direction of Culture of the City of Cannes

This platform sheds light on the creative work of choreographic artists presented by the European Studiotrade cooperative network. Focusing on putting the body into motion, the members of the network share residency and programming time by promoting the pooling of places of research, creation and the prospecting of new territories.

Inbal Ben Haim (France- Israel)
Poetic presentation of a creative process
By mixing circus, dance, theatre, improvisation and visual arts, Inbal Ben Haim creates her own poetics of expression. Based on the creation PLI, she offers, together with plastic artists Domitille Martin and Alexis Mérat, a guided tour of the landscapes that have inspired artistic and scientific research surrounding the circus and paper.

São Castro and António M Cabrita
choreographers of the Play False, cultural association
Last (extract) trio
For São Castro and António M Cabrita, the relationship between movement and music is essential. It is magnified, in this excerpt, by the interpretation offered by three dancers – to the music of the final String Quartets composed by Beethoven.

Airida Gudaitė
choreographer of Low Air, Vilnius city dance theatre (Lithuania)
We, The Clique (extract)
Creating a collective space for physical commitment and performance, Airida Gudaitė brings out the individual doubts of youth and confronts them with the gaze and memories of older generations.

A creation that offers a journey into the history of body shapes that our clothing has drawn over time.”

Have generations of metal corsets and false bottoms left their mark on contemporary bodies and imaginations? What can we discover about today’s bodies by revisiting these objects? Attitudes Habillées offers a journey into the history of clothing, and into the history of the body shapes that our clothing has drawn over time.

JÉRÔME BEL

Isadora Duncan

Creation 2019

French Riviera Première

Concept : Jérôme Bel
Choreography : Isadora Duncan
With Elisabeth Schwartz et Chiara Gallerani

The iconic figure of modern dance, Isadora Duncan, is magnified here in this portrait dedicated to her life and work by Jérôme Bel, alongside the dancer Élisabeth Schwartz.

Combining spoken moments and danced solos, this portrait revives the memory of Isadora Duncan’s free dance, based on five of her emblematic choreographies. Through her great freedom of expression, the visionary American choreographer – privileging spontaneity and naturalness – offered the bases of modern dance, at the origin of contemporary dance.

Dance Workshop n°10 – LAND

Espace Miramar (Cannes)
From Thursday, December 9th to Saturday, December 11th
Espace Miramar – Angle Croisette/Rue Pasteur (Cannes)

Scientific coordination: Federica Fratagnoli and Marina Nordera, with Cathy De Plée, Céline Gauthier and Nikita Pere

Organized by Côte d’Azur University, CTEL, EUR CREATES – Arts & Humanités

In partnership with Cannes – Côte d’Azur France Dance Festival

Terrains: a deliberately plural term that defines the roots and territories of dance research, giving rise to transdisciplinary practices. Geography and cartography are drawn as much from real places marked out bodily, as from virtual spaces woven on the web or in the imagination. Bringing together researchers and artists, Atelier n°10 will test the vitality and richness of anchored and immersive proposals.

On this occasion, international researchers and researchers who in one way or another have animated the artistic and scientific life of the dance research team of the Université Côte d’Azur will be brought together, face to face or remote meetings, by participating in the “Atelier de la danse” over the years, and of which we are celebrating the 10th edition.

Prospective stakeholders: Sarah Andrieu, Annemari Autere, Cristina Bahnarel Albertini, Valérie Ballestra, Alessandro Campeggiani, Marian Del Valle, Susanne Franco, Alice Godfroy, Philippe Guisgand, Daniela Guzman, Dóra Kiss, Mahalia Lassibille, Ga-Young Lee, Elisa Lhortolat, Bruno Ligore, Anaïs Loyer, Hélène Marquié, Bianca Maurmayr, Adeline Maxwell, Karen Nioche, Camille Paillet, Inés Perez Wilke, Marie Philippart, Marion Pontal, Margarita Poulakou, Clara Rico Osés, Aurore Rossignol, Alessandra Sini, Carolane Sanchez, Mattia Scarpulla, Daniela Tenhamm, Marie Tholon, Fernanda Veiga et Joëlle Vellet.

Choreography and dance: Salim Mzé Hamadi Moissi

Massiwa

Creation 2020
French Riviera Première
Performance for 7 dancers
Choreography: Salim Mzé Hamadi Moissi

Choreographer Salim Mzé Hamadi Moissi, who travelled from Comoros with his company Tché-Za, delivers a powerful dance that offers a tender and humorous look at his native country.

A double billing allowing audiences to discover the universe of Salim Mzé Hamadi Moissi, as he opens up new horizons to hip-hop dance. Combining a virtuoso and imaginative hip-hop, revisiting traditional Comorian dances and music, Massiwa showcases a rather athletic, ardent, impetuous and always controlled masculine dance.

CCN MALANDAIN BALLET BIARRITZ

The rite of spring

According to the Igor Stravinski’s argument
Creation 2021
French Riviera Première – Coproduction Festival de Danse Cannes – Côte d’Azur Performance for 18 dancers
Music: Igor Stravinski
Choreography and set design : Martin Harriague

The Malandain Ballet Biarritz is one of the best ballet companies in France. This ballet uniquely presents a very current dance derived from classical technique.

The masterpieces of the Ballets Russes have continued to inspire choreographers over the years. The music of Igor Stravinsky is no stranger to the success of these mythical ballets, nor to their abundant posterity. It has served as a tremendous stimulus, triggering new creative energies. Today, the Malandain Ballet Biarritz seizes this creative energy, by bringing together a new version of The Firebird by Thierry Malandain and The Rite of Spring by Martin Harriague, associate artist at CCN Malandain Ballet Biarritz, all in the same programme.

SÉBASTIEN LY

NOW

Creation 2021 – Solo

Choreography and dance: Sébastien Ly
Musician: Loïc Guénin

Sébastien Ly, French choreographer of Vietnamese origin, offers a radical change in his work as he presents a frontal show for the first time, serving as a call to action in the face of the plural crises of our modern world.

NOW demands an immediate and individual mobilisation to overcome the multiple crises we are experiencing today (climate, migration and resources). Sébastien Ly operates this radical change, by offering for the first time in his repertoire a frontal and muscular show, under pressure, in which a body caught in a vice gradually frees itself
in order to build a warlike body, ready for combat.

Choreography : Jomar Mesquita with musics from Pedro Almodóvar’s films

Dancers : Alec Santino, Andrea Pinheiro, Fabiana Dias, Jomar Mesquita, Juliana Macedo, Alexandre Tadra, Patrícia Gea et Rodrigo de Castro

Enveloped in an atmosphere inspired by the films of Almodóvar, Dolores is a daring show that explores human relationships with passion and intensity.

From Sambo to Forró, via salsa, zouk, swing and tango, Jomar Mesquita and his Mimulus company know all the ins and outs of so-called ‘ballroom’ Latin dancing. Dolores, conceived with a certain pop aesthetic and inspired by the film scores of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, is a piece filled with passion and desire.
