December 8 to 17
This Festival aims to bring together all the forces that contribute to the vitality of the choreographic art form, from prestigious troupes to young ballets, from top schools to the most innovative companies.
This year’s edition features major works such as Carmina Burana in its monumental version, with 250 people on stage, or Don Quichotte by the National Ballet of Uruguay, works by masters such as Roland Petit or Merce Cunningham, or choreographers from the contemporary scene (Damien Jalet, Thomas Lebrun…), with a special focus on women. Women I’ve worked with such as Eleonora Abbagnato and Robyn Orlin, but also Alessandra Ferri and the inventive Maud Le Pladec, Anne Nguyen and Jann Gallois.
Emerging companies on the European choreographic scene are in Cannes thanks to our partnership with the Studiotrade Platform, and the emphasis is on youth, with the programming of the Cannes Jeune Ballet and the CNDC School in Angers, because the Cannes Dance Festival is also the shelter, the cocoon, that enables them to hone their art before taking off for other horizons.
Beyond the works presented by the 17 guest companies, the Festival continues to develop the encounters, debates, times for reflection and discussion around a symposium, master-classes and practical workshops that are essential to this event, integrating mediation actions aimed at all audiences. This is also the case for the grand participatory closing ball, the Bal looping pop, led by choreographer Anne Nguyen, which invites everyone, amateurs and neophytes alike, to enter the world of dance.
