Festival history

Created in 1985 by the Ville de Cannes, the Festival de Danse de Cannes is undoubtedly one of the leading national and international dance festivals. The creation of the event is part of the Ville de Cannes’s historic relationship with the world of Dance, thanks in particular to the momentum generated by the opening of the Rosella Hightower International Dance Center in 1961.

Since 1993, the biennial Festival de Danse has established a strong identity for itself, with numerous new creations showcasing new talent on the choreographic scene and the work of major international companies. In 2025, the Festival de Danse Cannes – Côte d’Azur begins a new chapter in its history, becoming an annual event. More than just a change of calendar, this new dynamic affirms a strong commitment to the public, artists and professionals alike, with the aim of showcasing dance throughout the year, in resonance with local players and international partners.
