SET AND RESET/ RESET

Reconstruction by CNSMD Paris master students by Kathleen Fisher

Based on the original Trisha Brown Dance Company piece Set and Reset (1983)

Piece for 12 performers

Direction: Muriel Maffre

Running time: 20 min

The Trisha Brown Dance Company first presented Set and Reset in 1983 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). This signature piece confirmed Trisha Brown as a leader in abstract choreography.
Students from the Conservatoire de Paris are an integral part of both the creative process and the result. Former Trisha Brown Dance Company dancer Kathleen Fisher led the month-long re-choreography project, teaching students the exact sequences of the original piece, then guiding them through a process of improvisation and creating variations. Set and Reset/Reset is thus a combination of the original piece and the choreography created by the students at the Paris Conservatoire.

SWING – MOTOR (working title)

Autumn 2023 premiere for the CNSMD Lyon Young Ballet

Choreography: Aina Alegre

Piece for 12 performers

With Mathis Bauvin, Alexandre Blais, Adèle Bonduelle, Noa Calatayud, Hugo Daniel, Hugo Daubresse, Tom Galy, Hugo Hagen, Ninon Jude, Daniil Kliuchnikov, Anna Martin-François, Thais Rambaut.

Estimated running time: 20 min

Le Jeune Ballet du CNSMD collaborated with choreographer Aina Alegre, appointed co-director of the CCN de Grenoble in 2023.
In SWING, the choreographer aims to “develop with the Jeune Ballet the notion of swing already explored in my latest creation THIS IS NOT (an act of love and resistance). Swing is both a rhythmic quality and a musical trend in jazz, but it’s also the English translation of the word balancer.” The notions of balance, rhythm, weight and counterweight will be at the heart of this creation.
MOTOR refers to actions such as walking and running, as the driving forces behind the choreographic material. The choreographic score will be made up of walks, runs and turns imbued with the “swing” of the bodies of the 12 performers.

POROROCA (excerpt)

Re-creation with students from Cndc-Angers

Created and directed by Lia Rodrigues

Piece for 19 performers

With Victor Allain, Ema Bertaud, Adam Chado, Malick Cissé, Noan Colin, Muriel Garric, Paul Grassin, Mado Lizzi, Stanley Menthor, Michael Nana, Louise Phelipon, Noémie Samier Okamura, Alexandre Tessier, Lucas Resende, Alina Tskhovrebova, Adèle Turby, Gal Zusmanovich, Veronika Reva.

Creative and directing assistant: Amalia Lima

Production: Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças / Cndc-Angers

Direction de la pédagogie Cndc Angers : Amélie Coster

Estimated running time: 30 min

Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues worked with students at Cndc-Angers to recreate an excerpt from her piece Pororoca (2009). In the indigenous Tupi language, “pororoca” means “the noise that destroys”. It refers to a tidal bore, a spectacular wave produced by the tide of the Atlantic Ocean flowing up the Amazon River against the current. For Lia Rodrigues, the word becomes a metaphor for the encounter of differences. As a result, the stage is shaken by an incessant swell; a fiery, multicolored wave swells, rolls, breaks and reforms, nourished by the bodies, movements, energies and emotions of each performer.

TERRITORIO

Creation 2023 for PSPBB 3rd year DNSPD jazz students

Estimated running time: 25 min

In this new creation for 3rd-year DNSPD students at the PSPBB, choreographer Lhacen Hamed Ben Bella explores notions of space, territory and impact, using the fluidity, energy and expressiveness of jazz dance.
“I want to explore the dynamics of power, territoriality and intimacy that emerge when we come into contact with another’s space.
The idea is to invite the audience to observe how our relationship to space can influence our interactions and emotions. Each student will be encouraged to develop their creativity through their own experience and that of the group”.
