DANCE FILMS ON THE THEME OF SUSPENSION AND GRAVITY
2023, 54 MIN
A montage of choreographic and performance extracts proposed by the Centre national de la danse with Loïe Fuller, Trisha Brown Early Works, Laura De Nercy and Bruno Dizien, Kitsou Dubois, Jann Gallois, Mourad Merzouki, Régine Chopinot, Philippe Decoufé, Iztok Kovac, Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia…
Rising on pointe, jumping, leaping… the dancer tries to go ever further, ever higher, to free himself from gravitational pull, to seek out new spaces to explore between heaven and earth. He questions gravity through his body and finds other ways of moving. This becomes a source of inventiveness and technical experimentation that leads the creation towards new gestures.
The use of devices, whether scenic (mirrors, sets, etc.) or accessorised (rope, harness, etc.), from the simplest to the most elaborate, transforms our usual reference points of horizontality and verticality, our relationship with the ground and the void, and blurs our understanding of space, the body and its possibilities. The relationship between gravity and suspension changes until it disappears.
Playful, poetic, strange, even unreal worlds are born before our eyes.
