Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, whose striking creations have marked the decade – in collaboration with Koreless, rising star of British electro.
Since the birth of their L-E-V- company in 2013, based in France, the choreographer Sharon Eyal and her accomplice Gai Behar have been electrifying contemporary dance. Each of their productions has the unique gift of offering a combination of images and emotions, blending the power of dance, the millimetric geometry of bodies and the freeing touch of madness inherited from the underground culture of clubs and nightlife. In these moving scenes, lights, scenography and music all play a key role. The two artists have therefore entrusted the score of Into The Hairy to the composer Lewis Robert, aka Koreless, whose album Agor revolutionised the electro scene in 2021. Described as a “prodigy of minimalist music”, this Brit and his multiple inspirations offers up an imaginative sound experience, like a journey to be shared. The new L-E-V- piece also brings together stylist Maria Grazia Chirui, director of Christian Dior Culture, and lighting designer Alon Cohen, long-time partners of the company. Finally, it is brought to life by seven actors, experienced in all styles – essential craftsmen of the “magic” proclaimed by Sharon Eyal in all her stage productions.
Sharon Eyal
After dancing between 1990 and 2008 for Ohad Naharin’s Batsheva Dance Company, Sharon Eyal served as assistant artistic director, then associate choreographer from 2005 to 2012. She founded the L-E-V- Dance Company in Tel Aviv with the multidisciplinary artist Gai Behar, a figure of the city’s nightlife, and has since created various pieces, including for the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and the Paris Opera Ballet (Faunes in 2021). In 2017, she was awarded the Fedora Van Cleef & Arpels Prize for Ballet.
